SUNSUGAR NURSERY LLC
Happy to have you stop by today! My name is Bernadette Fox. I am the owner and primary grower at SunSugar Nursery. It is true that SunSugar Nursery is just in its infant stage in the plant nursery world but for me it started many years back when I was a little girl helping my momma in our flower gardens. Granted, I was more infatuated with picking flowers and making myself pretty and decorating the house than I was the actual gardening, but I know a seed was planted during that time. The seed finally germinated though when I became big enough to help my dad on our fruit and vegetable farm. That was when my eyes became big ol’ saucers and I couldn’t take enough in. My dad was a farmer, made a living growing hundreds of different fruits and vegetables, but he also just loved his trees and would explain all the different kinds every opportunity he had. His passion slowly rubbed off on me and I would stop whatever I was doing and with full-attention try to listen to every word. He was a wealth of knowledge. This gleaning of knowledge from my parents and hands-on experience led me to start gardening on my own when I was 9 years old. I made a clearing in our woods and immersed myself in the plant world. I used every ounce of my spare time in studying, experimenting, and growing all kinds of flowers and shrubs and trees. I had many failures but also many successes. As I got older I found myself wanting to share what I’ve learned and help others start their own flower garden or fruit orchard or vegetable patch or herb bed. I’ve done it all, I loved doing it, and I continue to find my happy place among my plants, so why not spread that joy to others!
SunSugar Nursery is located on the outskirts of Fremont, Michigan. Having grown up on a fruit and vegetable farm I specialize in producing and selling many kinds of fruiting and edible plants including fruiting trees, nut trees, berry bushes, and grape vines as well as vegetable plants and a staggering amount of culinary and medicinal herbs. Apart from the edible kind of plant I am also excited to share my passion for gardening and landscaping by producing and selling a wide selection of unique trees and shrubs hardy to our zone, native plants that are natural attractants and habitats for butterflies and other insects, tried and true perennial flowers, ferns, and plants with many that are deer resistant, and annual flowers that always brighten the day with their cheerful colors.
And always count on free and helpful advice to make sure your plantings and gardens are a success!
I currently sell plants at our single location at 4380 S. Gordon Ave., Fremont, MI 49412. If you are looking for vegetable seeds or nuts please check out our online store and see what’s available. If there is something you don’t see, make sure to drop us an email.
UPDATE September 2017: SunSugar Nursery is temporarily being managed by Magicland Farms as I spend my time as a new wife, working with my husband in his business, and working through the ups and downs of my first pregnancy. If you have any plant questions I am still available and love sharing everything I have learned as a farmer and avid gardener.
